When it comes to camping food, the meals that I plan for have to meet a couple of criteria:
- They Must Be Easy
- They Must Be Affordable
- They Must Be Filling
These requirements are found in all of my camping meals, and therefore in my free camping meal plans.
Camping Sloppy Joes are no exception.
The recipe is about as simple as they come, and a simple prep step makes actually heating and serving them at the campsite a breeze – especially when you’re strapped for time or just tired from a day full of fun.
This particular recipe is found in the 4-Day Fall Camping Meal Plan (It’s free!) because we prefer hot meals when the weather turns cooler, and these sandwiches pair very nicely with Campfire Mexican Street Corn, Campfire Mac ‘n Cheese or more traditional sides like cole slaw, potatoes, or even a side of soup!
The key to this recipe is one of my favorite camping hacks: Freeze anything and everything you can.
We do have a small refrigerator that we take camping with us, but not everything will fit, so I have to put many food items in cooler.
And when we’re camping for longer than 3 days, keeping the food inside those coolers cold enough to be safe to eat.
But, when I prepare recipes like sloppy joes ahead of time and freeze them solid before placing them in the cooler, they keep out coolers colder, for longer, and with less ice needed!
Try these sandwiches out on your next camping trip – and make sure to pick up the free camping meal plan! It doesn’t get any easier than this!
